Linking devices to units

The unit’s device signs in to the Knuut app with a device account. A device account belongs to one unit, and a device signed in with it shows only that unit’s children and employees. A Unit admin or an Organisation admin creates the account in the browser version.

Creating a device account

Where to find it:Settings›the unit›Devices›Add a new device

1. Choose Settings on the left. Under Unit settings choose the right unit, then Devices.
2. Press Add a new device. If the unit already has devices, the button is Add device.
3. Give the device a name, for example entrance or group-1. The name can hold lowercase letters a–z, digits and hyphens, 3–30 characters. Letters such as ä and ö are not allowed. The name becomes part of the device’s username, so pick one that identifies the device.
4. Give a password of at least 6 characters. It is only needed for signing in on the device.
5. Press Create device.

Save the details right away

The username and password cannot be shown again, and a device account cannot request a password reset. Write them down or sign the device in while the window is open. If the details are lost, delete the device and create a new one with a different name.

Signing the device in

1. Open the Knuut app on the device. The sign-in page is shown.
2. Press Scan QR code to sign in and point the camera at the QR code in the browser. The app signs in by itself.
3. If the camera cannot be used, type the username and password into the fields and sign in.
4. The PIN screen appears, with the device’s username at the bottom. The device is now linked to the unit.

The device stays signed in until someone presses Sign Out on the PIN screen. After that the device asks for the username and password again.

What is the device used for?

An employee unlocks the device with their own PIN, see PIN codes for staff. These tabs then appear:

Tab	For

When the app goes to the background or the screen turns off, the device returns to the PIN screen. The next employee unlocks it with their own code.

Removing a device

Delete a device when it goes out of use or its credentials may have leaked. Deleting closes the device’s account and signs the device out. Check-ins made on the device are kept. A deleted device’s name cannot be used again, so give the new device a new name, for example entrance-2.

Several devices in one unit

Create a separate device account for each device. Then one device can be removed without signing the others out, and the check-ins show which device they were made on.
