When units merge, the children are placed in one go. Each child gets their own temporary placement, and each one can be edited separately later.

Placing goes in three steps. The step names are shown at the side of the page, and you can go back to a step you have already done by clicking it.

  1. Unit and period. These settings apply to every child you choose.

    • Host unit: the unit the children go to. The unit whose page you started from is chosen already. It can be changed to any unit of the organisation.
    • Group in the host unit: optional. The children appear in the host unit as children of this group.
    • Starts and Ends: both days belong to the placement. The end date cannot be in the past.
    • Communication during the placement: see Communication during the placement.
    • Notes: for example who drops off and picks up the children. Guardians do not see notes.

    Press Choose children.

  2. Children. The list shows the children of the other units you manage, by unit and group. The host unit’s own children are not on the list.

    • The search field finds a child by name, unit or group.
    • The checkbox in a group heading selects the whole group. Select all selects everyone, and during a search Select results selects only the matches. Clear removes the selection.
    • A greyed-out child already has a placement for the same period and cannot be chosen. The row says Already placed:, the unit and the days.

    Press Review.

  3. Review. Check the unit, group, period, communication and notes, and the Children to place list. Each child is followed by their home unit. Press Place (for example Place 12 children).

Saving makes all the placements at once or none of them. If a child already has a placement for the same period, Knuut names the children and saves nothing. Remove those children from the selection or correct their placements and try again.

After a successful save you see a message, for example 12 children placed in Päiväkoti Männikkö., and return to the Holiday placements page.

Two ways to merge units

  • All at once: an Organisation admin opens the holiday unit’s Holiday placements page and chooses the children of every closing unit in one go.
  • One unit at a time: a Unit admin opens their own unit’s page, presses New placements, changes the host unit to the holiday unit and chooses their own children.

Both ways end the same: every child has their own placement in the holiday unit.

Arriving and leaving

The Holiday placements page lists the unit’s active and upcoming placements in two parts.

The status is Upcoming or Active. Ended placements are not shown on this page, only on the child’s Placements tab.

Nothing is edited or removed on this page. The child’s name takes you to the child’s Placements tab, where the placement can be edited. See One child’s placement.
