Temporary placements in Knuut

This guide explains how to place a child in another unit for a set period (tilapäinen sijoitus). The most common case is merging units over Christmas or the summer: the children of several units attend one holiday unit and then return to their own units.

What is a temporary placement?

A placement has a host unit, an optional group in the host unit, a start date and an end date. Both days belong to the placement, and a placement always ends.
The child’s own unit, the home unit, does not change. The child is invoiced by the home unit during the placement too.
On the placed days the child appears in the host unit’s care time bookings, on its device and in its staffing need, and drops out of the home unit’s views for the same days. See What a placement changes.
On the placed days the guardian’s bookings follow the host unit’s opening hours and notice window.
For each placement you choose whether guardians get the host unit’s announcements and whether the host unit sees the child’s conversation. See Communication during the placement.
When the placement ends, the child appears only in their home unit again. There is nothing to undo.

Who does what?

Role	Tasks
Organisation admin	Can place the children of any unit in any unit of the organisation. Can merge units in one go from the holiday unit’s page.
Unit admin	Places their own unit’s children in another unit and edits and removes those placements. The host unit’s admin sees the placed child’s details and care times during the placement, but cannot change the placement.
Worker	Sees the placed children on the host unit’s device and checks them in and out as usual.
Guardian	Sees a notice about the placement in the app and books the placed days by the host unit’s rules. Cannot add or change placements.

1New placements: places many children at once in this or another unit.
2Arriving: children of other units who attend this unit during their placement.
3Leaving: this unit’s children who attend another unit during their placement.
4Status: Upcoming or Active. The page lists only active and upcoming placements.

While any placement is active, a Holiday placements row with the number of active placements appears under Children in the sidebar. The row takes you straight to the page.
